Prof. C.C Soludo

Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR (born 28 July 1960) is a Nigerian politician and economics professor who serves as the fifth democratic Governor of Anambra State since 17 March 2022. On 9 November 2021, Prof. Soludo, representing the All Progressives Grand Alliance, was declared winner of the 2021 Anambra State gubernatorial election, defeating his closest rivals from the PDP and APC, Valentine Ozigbo and Emmanuel Nnamdi Uba, respectively. Prof. Soludo is a former governor and chairman of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He was appointed as the bank’s governor on 29 May 2004. He is also a member of the British Department for International Development’s International Advisory Group and member of President Buhari’s Presidential Economic Advisory Committee.

Hon. Nweze Tony

Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, contested under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and won the election in a landslide victory, defeating his closest opponent with thousands of votes. He took the oath of office alongside other elected Mayors from the 21 local government areas of the state in an official engagement officiated by Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR in Awka. In his inaugural address, Governor Soludo urged the new Mayors to govern with integrity, transparency, and accountability, emphasizing their responsibility to the citizens who entrusted them with their votes. Mayor Nwora expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Onitsha North for believing in him and for voting for him on September 28, 2024. He pledged to prioritize the overall interests of the residents in all decisions he makes while fulfilling his duties as Mayor. Furthermore, the City Mayor conveyed his intention to adopt Governor Soludo's transformative leadership style to deliver effective, accountable, and people-centered governance to the good people of Onitsha. He urged the residents to always support his administration for the progress and development of Onitsha North, marking the beginning of a collaborative journey toward a brighter future for the community.

The Histor of Onitsha Markets

The history of Onitsha North LGA can be traced back to the 16th century, when it was founded by a group of Igbo people from Benin. The early settlers were led by a man named Eze Chima, who was a prince from Benin. The town was originally called Onitsha Mmili, which means "Onitsha on the water".
